Went there with 3 of my relatives tonight and it was amazing, ordered 2 Meat Lover sets and 2 Seafood Lover sets, food was amazing, chef was very nice, played a few games with the chef. Moreover the atmosphere was amazing too!!

We introduced our kids to teppanyaki only late last year, and they love the format; my youngest turned 9 and wanted to do this for dinner on her birthday on a Tuesday night, and as we were going to be in the city, I chose Hisshou after looking at the reviews here on TripAdvisor.
I booked over the phone, and while the person answering was very friendly, I had trouble understanding what she was asking of me at one point - in retrospect, I think it might have been "surname", but at the time I wasn't sure, despite me asking and her repeating it a couple of times - eventually we both effectively gave up. There was a similar pattern at the restaurant - the staff are all very friendly and really want to help, but while much of their English is very good, it definitely wasn't the first language of either of our waitresses or of our chef and there were a number of moments where we would ask something and it would take repeated effort and a couple of tries at rephrasing our question before they understood what we were asking.
There's plenty of room around the tables and the wait staff are prompt & efficient at cleaning up the mishaps, which is great for the sleight of hand the chef uses with the raw eggs; their flames go up considerably higher than other teppanyaki places we've been to, but they don't normally toss you your bowls of fried rice - our chef made an exception for us, but it felt a lot more hazardous given the lack of practice and the design of the metal bowls, which didn't sit inside one another as well as the plastic ones we've experienced in other restaurants. So a slightly different sort of teppanyaki experience, which is just that - different.
They've got a couple of large screen TVs mounted on the walls showing pop music videos - nothing way out there, but my wife and I have tried to keep our kids away from stuff like LMFAO's "Sexy and I Know It" and "Bang Bang" by Jessie J ft. Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj, so the two older boys were a bit goggle eyed at times. The Asian pop music videos were hilarious, though, especially the group that seemed to be sponsored by Pepsi.
Overall, we had a great time: the food is good, they've got a great range of drinks, and the staff are terrific if you can show a little patience.

Fantastic show and services from the staffs. I went here with my friends Week ago. The chef cooked for us was so funny, we played games such as catching eggs and rice, that was so enjoyable for us. By the way there are some good cocktails as well. I really love the one called "Okinawa island ".that was so good.

We went to Hisshou last week with a group of 10. The food was fresh and beatifully cooked in front of us. Jack, the chef, was very entertaining ...he threw the eggs, fried rice etc into our bowls from a distance. Some of us didn't catch it but it was fun. We all had a good laugh. Staff were friendly. Will go back there again.

Looking for something different for dinner with my parents who had not eaten Teppanyaki before our group of six decided on the set banquet for $39 per person. Great value with a good selection of seafood, chicken, steak, fried rice, vegetables + soup, served with nice cold beer +friendly service. Highly recommend for a way to spend 2 hours eating + being entertained by quality cooks.

"I came here for a friends' bucks' party - this was my first real teppanyaki dining experience, and it was the most fun dining experience i've been to in a long while! the chefs are very friendly & impressively entertaining as they cook the yummy food right in front of you, serving it steaming straight to your plate -- as hot as it looked, it was just the right temperature to eat almost straight away - i still cant figure out how they do that -- the iron cooking plate is obviously very hot, and the meat is cooked all the way through-- juicy, tender & full of flavour! i ordered the cheapest banquet @ $36 ... though i had to leave early & didn't get to finish sampling all my courses, and i was sure i didn't actually eat that large a quantity, i was definitely full, i left with a very happy stomach & tastebuds that were tantalised as never before! they even play games with the food which was fun, but does mean there's wastage which i'm passionately against [!] oh well, i guess most of the price is to cover the entertainment & the uniqueness of the experience, plus the wasted food ;) ... few dining experiences will be as memorable as this one!"

I had booked Hisshou 2 weeks in advance for 12 people. They knew it was my birthday and the night I arrived with all my friends they were having a power cut.... Not the restaurants fault I guess but the fact that they had all my contact details and hadn't warned me before I turned up with all my friends was unacceptable. When we arrived they had been without power for 2 hours but wasn't sure if it was going to come back on, they seated us all anyway and after waiting 30 mins I called over the waiter and asked if they were going to be able to cook for us this evening, he rudely replied 'I dont know yet, probably not' I then asked if we could order some drinks whilst we wait, he replied 'Look to be honest you may aswell leave because I'm not going to serve you all'... It was completely uncalled for, and unacceptable. How this guy works in the hospitality industry I have no idea. We left there with nowhere else booked on a busy Saturday night in the City, I got the number for Wharf Teppanyaki on Lime Street, explained the situation and they were more than accomodating for us. We arrived there at 9:30pm and were seatED and served with a smile. The food and atmosphere was absolutely amazing! I couldn't recomend it any higher. Don't go Hisshou - its terrible. Go Wharf Teppenyaki!!! They are the BEST! :)

We went there last Saturday with my wife and another couple, the place was packed. We had the $59 set Kotei… (12 courses I think), the size is not huge, but we value the quality of the dishes, the atmosphere and the great services of the table chef and host. The beef is so tender; simply melt in the mouth, juicy mega size prawn, thick perch fillet, not to mention the skill of the chef and attentiveness of the waitresses, it worth every cent we paid for the 2 hours there. All the other guests seems all enjoying also. Definitely book first, the lady there told us that they usually full on the weekends, and we did seeing many were turned away at the door. Go for the Banquet Sets, as it works out cheaper than a la carte. Don’t dress expensive clothes as it might get stained – they throw foods to you! A great Teppanyaki compared to those we had been – Highly Highly recommended.

This place is hardly ever open unless they get large bookings. I managed to get a small group together on a friday and have to say we left hungry the price is not worth the minimal amount of food they served us. Taste was very bland and boring. We will not go back here again.

We just wanted a small quick meal as we weren't to hungry, I wasn't keen on having the food throwing show so just told them not to worry as sometimes your just not in the mood. The lady taking our order had a little difficulty understanding what we wanted but eventually she understood. The talented chef guy was prompt, and our meal tasted amazing. In and out in approx 20mins and only cost us $20 admittedly we only ordered the chicken fried rice and a coke but it was all we wanted and we walked out raving about it so we went back for seconds the following evening, it left us wanting more and if they were open for breakfast I reckon we would have went lol. Good location in George street but away from the busy section. Close to the hotel we stayed at the Novotel.

The place is not classy it is more of a family restaurant the chef's were kind and attentive the waitresses were not at the top of their game. It was fun for the kids and a restaurant to be remembered, the food was more than enough we ordered 3 menus 80 AUD each and we were stuffed (4 of us with 2 kids). There was no sushi thou they told us over the phone there would be. No point in calling unless you speak Japanese. The Chefs were throwing eggs and omelette at the kids which they really enjoyed catching and the flames are high so sit back.

Me and my friends who come from Europe visited Sydney and we wanted to eat dinner, originally we thought it is greek restaurant with greek food as those words are similar to greek. At first we got disappointed because we were hungry and not used to eat Asian food but it turned to be great night as we all enjoyed ambience and trying some new food. All of us were pleasantly surprised with service and taste of food, average price and very good experience.

Our beloved Jess knew months ahead that she wanted to have teppanyaki for her birthday dinner, so one very wet Sunday we all made our way over to this little restaurant. Funny, I drive past this road all the time, but the whole time walking over I could not imagine what the shop front looked like…THE NIGHT STARTS OFF WITH A BANG! The chef hits the little gong above the stove and we get started! .. The service was good, portion sizes could be bigger, however the cooks do know how to create a fun atmosphere and is interactive with you. I mean, you sort of have to be if we’re all going to be at throwing food at each other basis, right?.... Hi Michael! I found the place through Google. It was very delicious and I recommend going. the chef did a great performance and he even let me ring the gong lol. Banquet prices were very cheap and reasonable. Most of us chose the "Hibi" ($39) and the "Yukai" ($46) banquet, the difference was a sashimi and tea. I thought it was quite reasonable for hours entertainment.

If you love Teppanyaki - this is a great choice. You have lots of choice on the menu - I got the Seafood Banquet. Our chef was not very talkative - but we though he was really cheeky. They do a few interactive things through cooking your dinner. They stack eggs up on one another, and then the chef gives each person a bowl, and then one by one flicks the egg at you and you have to try catch it in your bowl! My estimation was bad and it ended up all over my lap. They also do the same thing and chuck a bowl of rice that you have to catch. Awesome fun for a change at dinner time, and you're definitely full when you leave, as well as a bit dirty maybe ;) is quite expensive but that’s what you get at Teppanyaki!

Happened across Hisshou while wandering with a business colleague looking for a suitable place for dinner. Had the $35 option, good, but should have gone to the $40-45 option. The chef was entertaining and the food great, except for the raw egg that my colleague wore instead of catching. Will definitely be back when in Sydney again.

32 of us had our work dinner last night and had a wonderful time there. Had the $55 banquet set, plus the drinks, it cost us about $85 per head, happy with it, when compared to other venues we'd previously been to. This was actually cheaper and more fun. Fresh food & experienced staff, our mess were promptly cleaned up, very well managed. I really loved seeing eggs hitting my colleague’s head. Will surely be bringing those I hate there again, and also the loved ones. Thumbs up.

“Anniversay Dinning Experience”
Been there once on a Saturday night, crazily packed with people screaming like in hell & laughing like in heaven. Enjoyed the food & the super-waitresses’ attention. This time, we took our parents there for their BIG 50th Anniversary, 43 of us. We decided to go on a Sunday night, as it is quieter unlike Saturdays. We wanted a slow pace so that we can catch up things with the families, 3 full hours. Thank you Jack for arranging it, the top chef, who advised hard to be done on Friday or Saturday nights as they have 2 or more seatings per night on those nights (bear this in mind). The food was terrific once again, especially the wagyu beef, top grade, we know it, as family in meat business, it is MBS9+, which is almost the best beef you can possibly find in Australia (some un-respectful establishment uses MBS3 grade and charge MBS9 price… ). Overall, I would say that they are very genuine & nice people, good food and excellent services, will definitely recommend it to all the readers here, and we will definitely return, but still like Saturdays. Oops. love the show from Jack as well, remember…Jack…

“Great place, excellent foods and services”
Walked past it many times as I work in the area. It always seemed like the guys dining inside were having lots of fun, taking a lot of attention of by passers. In fact, I had stopped a few times just to watch them playing with the fire and catching, as they keep their front door wide open. Spoke to people, they all said good things about it, well then, I decided to give it a go with my friends and family during the Christmas break to celebrate my wife’s birthday as well as to see what the hype was about. It was a Friday night around 7:30pm, the place was packed. The big group sitting right next to us were screaming. We were a bit annoyed at first but only to find out later that we were acting exactly like them before. Not sure about what the new group next to us thought though, but they were smiling anyway. We all had the $55 set, as we did not want the dishes mixed up. The food was well over our expectation, juicy beef and fresh prawns, the services was even better I must say, given how busy they were, not to mention the fun. We all enjoyed the night, highly recommended, book before you go.

Thanks for sharing your valuable experience here. We take every feedback seriously as we believe that no matter what the nature of the feedback is, it always helps us to improve and do better. Thank You
It is a Japanese culture that chefs wear Geta (or “thongs” in western term) when they are on duty. Nowadays it may be harder to see, however it still noticeable in Japan. If you do a Google Images search with subject “chefs with geta” ..etc, many photos may review that.
Our cooking utensils are cleaned after each session and sterilised at the end of each day. However, depending on the dishes, the same utensils may be used for cooking on a shared teppan.
The chef you mentioned is Jack, as he is the only chef here who insists on keeping the tradition and wearing geta. He has nearly 13 years experience in Teppanyaki and over 20 years in hospitality, food and beverage services . A search in his file of our staff records found a copy of his business registration of a Teppanyaki restaurant in his name dated back in 1999.
Thank You for your feeback.

Hi Dennis, Thanks a lot for your kind feedback, it really help driving us in maintaining our high standard and market leader as a truly teppanyaki in Sydney ~ No two Teppanyakis are the same.
We open for lunch from 11:30am to 3pm (Monday to Friday) & dinner from 5:30pm to 11pm (Daily). We accept small group (1 guest) to large corporate reservations. We provide several booking channels to ensure our guests will always be able to reach us, for instance, by phone (02-9211 1234), fax (02-9011 1027), email (1234@hisshou.com.au), online (www.hisshou.com.au), via 3rd parites’ booking sites (e.g. www.bestrestaurants.com.au) or simply visit us at 752 George Street Sydney.
However, on the weekends/public holidays, we usually early at our seating capacity and once the capacity is reached, we will not accept further bookings or walk-in customers as it will affect the quality of the dinning we strive to provide here. For instance, last Queen’s birthday Sunday night, we had to turn away over 50 walk-in customers in order to ensure those already seated have a quality time with us instead of rushing through. No Sure if you were actually referring us or another establishment as we always open our doors per our trading schedules even if we only have 1 customer for a session.
Teppanyaki is not cheap and not an everyday’s meal. Many Teppanyaki restaurants are not busy all the time, especially during the weekdays unlike the traditional restaurants, therefore, the cost of maintaining a Teppanyaki is much higher on a per customer basis. To make it more difficult, a chef in a traditional restaurant can cook tens of customers’ dishes at the same time in a short period of time, whereas a real Teppanyaki chef is normally tied up at a teppanyaki station for hours and only cook for the dishes the customers who seat at the table have ordered. Without our fans of teppanyaki, we won’t be here as we are.
There are many teppanyaki have already closed down as it is simply unsustainable, to name a few: Shinju North Sydney, Ivy Sydney, Narita Haymarket, I Chi Ban Parramatta, Fuji Burwood, Fujiyama Chatswood, Daikoku Double Bay, Kamikaze Darling Harbour… and many more have been sold to new investors who may not have a real appreciation of Teppanyaki like us.
In order to lower the prices and attract everyday customers, some places may be playing around with the quality and quantity of the foods served, e.g. use cheap Basa Fillet instead of Perch Fillet, Banana Prawn instead of large U10 Prawn, Rump steak instead of Top Tenderloin steak, fake wagyu beef..etc, &/or take away a course in a banquet set to price it slightly cheaper…., engaging unqualified chefs/staff…., But not us, we proud of our quality and standard.
Sorry to hear you found our food bland and boring. As mentioned we only use quality freshest ingredients and as such the freshness should take care of itself without the need of much seasoning/dressing to cover/distort its taste, we only use our selected formulated seasoning to enhance the taste of each dish.
Thanks again Dennis. Truly Teppanyaki

Hi Georgia,
Thanks for your feedback.
You probably not aware that many of your guests were intoxicated when they arrived. We are just not permitted to serve them further, not to mention some of them consistently requested free cocktails. When you arrived 45 minutes after your booked time, we made it clear the situation, as our electrician were also working on it with an expectation that the power will be restored any second but better wait outside for safety reasons, however your group just forced the way in and seated. You may also not aware that the men’s rooms were also ruined.
We had many guests dinning here during the hour’s blackout and we were trying our best in such a difficult situation to ensure our customers continue to get the best possible we could. We are very thankful to the understanding of many, and especially those who were using their lighters, torches, mobile phones in assisting and guiding our chefs cooking, that really means a lot to us. Thank You.
Surprisingly, we received lots of positive feedback on the night, including a 5-STAR review we received on Google from a group similar to yours with the same booked time:
"yoni hochberg- 5-STAR, absolutely loved the experience here. staff were lovely. There was a blackout in the building just as we arrived but they accommodated beautifully for that with electronic candles. The food was beautiful and was quite cheap for teppanyaki! all 18 of us had a great experience."
Hopefully we will see you again and hopefully we will be able to serve you this time to impress you with our truly teppanyaki.
